Rocky

How can one sound so dumbfounded, yet be so clever? Rocky Laporte’s Who Knew?, is kind of a love letter to the single minded, middle aged, American male so stuck in his ways that the surrounding world spins off in chaos without his understanding. Rocky Laporte encapsilates this bumbling “man’s-man” attitude with a subtle wit that doesn’t attempt to do anything more than make you giggle. His endearing delivery and clever observations make light of those simple, yet frustrating, signs of civilization moving on. This album is a one man crusade to show the world that, “you know, whatever…”

You can’t argue Mitch Fatel as the king of man-boy comedy. His genius lies somwhere between his childlike self retardation and his meticulously brilliantly crafted material. To say this album is “blue” would be an understatement. To say that the risque material is offputting would be doing him a diservice. At somepoint within his perverse sexual observations, of which Mitch is an expert, you’ll find an adorable, lovable, and hilarious character, whos musings have one mostly captivated in innocent discovery and cuddly, “aw geeze” admiration.

Like I said, Mitch fatel is a genius and may be one of the greatest comics working today.

So get past your assumptions when first hearing his voice. Sit back in your favorite chair and laugh your ass off.

Here’s a fantastic album by an up and coming comic from Chicago. I had the pleasure of seeing this guy open for the Comedians Of Comedy tour at the Vic here in Chi-town.

His fresh observational style and witty criticisms keep this album fun and interesting from joke to joke. Each track is packed with well thought out material and quirky, sometimes odd, perspectives on everyday situations and a little of his own personal experiences growing into the man-boy you now see before you. Highly recommended and definitely someone to watch in the coming years.

Possibly, no… most certainly the best comedy album of 2008.

Daly’s genius delivery and uncanny ability to craft such rich characters is unparalled in contemporary comedy. This gem of an album strikes from outta nowhere with a mix of endearingly pathetic caricatures and fast paced storytelling, so meticulously crafted that no less than a few listens will do.

You may recall this genius performer as the Principal from the HBO original series Eastbound and Down, starring Danny Mcbride, created by the team that brought you the odd, awkward,  yet satisfying sleeper comedy, The Foot Fist Way.

Daly has also made appearances on MAD TV, Semi-Pro, and the short lived comedy central series Crossballs.

Please enjoy the track above and help yourself to the album below.
